2QUESTION 2 OF 3

Answer & explanation

The official answer, with Fermi’s reasoning step by step.

Answer & explanation

Official answer

23

iPhones

How to estimate it

Fermi’s official “Napkin math”

I have no idea how long the wingspan of an albatross is but it's probably taller than a regular person. I'm going to say 10 feet. The iPhone Duo opened is the widest iPhone but not quite as wide as an iPad, maybe six inches wide.

Albatross, tip to tip
~10 ft = 120 in
Duo opened, across
~6 in
120 ÷ 6
≈ 20

Rounded assumptions may give a slightly different estimate. The official answer above is the game’s reference value.

Source calculation & reference
Record wingspan (Guinness World Records)
3.63 m
iPhone Duo open, long side (Apple)
÷ 164.6 mm
3,630 ÷ 164.6
≈ 22.05
22 fall 9 mm short, so it takes
23 iPhones
